Latest Results for the Global Online Gaming Sector

The slot developers at CasinoWebScripts report that the global internet gambling market was up 7.2 percent to 25 billion euro in comparison with the figures of 2011, online gaming accounting for 8 percent of the total gross gaming revenues raked in during last year. Furthermore, analysts are estimating that this industry will account for 11.1 percent of revenues by the beginning of 2018. European gaming and betting markets are currently the main sectors which host online gambling sites. Last year, the gaming industry in Europe represented 12.6 percent of the global market, while the United States only accounted for 4.4 percent.
Gaming insiders are saying that these figures will most probably change in the near term due to the fact that North America is currently preparing to create a federal regulatory framework to allow online poker. Even so, last year’s numbers unveiled that 10 percent of the global gaming market is covered by US residents who gamble at offshore online gambling sites, despite the industry being illegal in the majority of the American states. Recent figures revealed that the United Kingdom produced 46 percent of the worldwide gaming and betting market services and products, followed by Asia at 28 percent and North America at 17 percent.

EU Court Prevents Italy to Ban Online Gaming

Casinowebscripts, the premier gaming company which creates top gaming solutions for operators who seek to buy games for online casinos, has information regarding recent declarations made by the Court of Justice of the European Union, in which it has been stated that Italy will not be allowed to ban any online gambling sites that are based in another EU member state in order to favor their own financial interest. Italy used to hold a blacklist of internet gaming and betting operators, following the example of Belgium, whose regulations are highly criticized by the EU Court which considers that they are against the principles on which the gaming industry in the EU is founded.
The Court explained that if any member state tries to restrict other EU operators licensed in another EU state who are willing to offer their products to residents of that certain country, it means that it is not acting in accordance with the EU law. Under Articles 43 EC and 49 EC, the Court explained that if an online operator holds a gaming license in an EU territory, any other EU member state must allow that certain operator to offer betting and gaming services to any other EU country, if the gaming license complies with the EU law and it is issued by that state’s own authorities.

Experts Estimate Future US Online Gaming Revenues

A recent study conducted by Spectrum Gaming Capital showed that with the legalization of online gambling in the US, the industry could generate $8.5 billion during its first five years of operation. Furthermore, experts say that the US land based gaming industry could become available in 18 American states during the following 6 years.
In addition, operators who will buy casino games for online gambling sites and entrepreneurs who run land based gaming businesses will not cannibalize each other as long as the regulatory framework encourages both kinds of operations by creating alliances between the two. The types of consumers who prefer land-based casinos are different from the ones who access online casinos, so by linking these two, a synergy that will attract both of these categories could be created.
New Jersey was the first American state to consider combining online gambling with brick-and-mortar casinos, for only operators who already run a land-based casino are currently allowed to open internet gambling sites. CEO of Spectrum Gaming Capital Robert Heller explained that New Jersey will thus have the opportunity to promote both tourism and social interaction while also creating job opportunities and potential revenue stream for the state’s coffers.

Madrid Asks Lawmakers to Allow Smoking Inside Mega Casino

According to the online casino software providers from CasinoWebScripts, it seems like Madrid is doing its best to convince the government to offer Sheldon Adelson, a US billionaire who wants to invest in a Spain-based casino, an exemption from the national anti-smoking law. Adelson, the Chief Executive of Las Vegas Sands, expressed the idea that he will develop the Eurovegas resort only if Spanish authorities allow his customers to smoke inside his casinos. The mega resort is expected to house 6 casinos, 12 hotels with various entertainment facilities and shops.
The casino boss said that if Madrid lawmakers will not comply with his demands and lift the smoking ban so that his customers will not be forced to take cigarette breaks outside his casinos, he might delay or even call off the plan. Madrid Mayor Ignacio González explained that the Spanish government should accept Adelson’s proposal, taking into consideration that Spain has an unemployment rate of around 27 percent, one of the highest in Europe, and is in serious need of job opportunities.
On the other hand, the government did not give any positive signals regarding Adelson’s proposal. At this point in time, smoking is illegal in all public places in Spain, including casinos, bars and workplaces. Thus, lawmakers are faced with deciding whether they should protect the health of individuals or take advantage of Adelson’s proposal in order to create employment opportunities.
